Afework
National Leader
Innovative Humanitarian Solutions

The strategy for Ethiopia is to help community leaders establish micro-businesses. The purposes of the businesses are:

  • to provide support for their families
  • to serve as a model for other community leaders

We will not just give money. We will provide interest-free loans after the leader has:

  • completed training
  • determined a legitimate business opportunity
  • proposed a business plan in writing and according to the training

Best means of local travel

The business plan must be accepted by the national leader and the United States Board of Directors for Innovative Humanitarian Solutions.

The five modules of the program are:

  1. orientation and basic business training
  2. return home and study possible business opportunities for one month
  3. second training session – At this time they will share their business opportunities with the national leader of Innovative Humanitarian Solutions.
  4. return home and write their business plan in one month
  5. receive response from United States Board of Directors for Innovative Humanitarian Solutions. If approved, loan amount will be determined and will be given as needed and/or as determined by the national leader of Innovative Humanitarian Solutions.

Men who will be trained

Payback on loan:
First six months – no payment required
End of second six months – 10% of loan should be repaid
Beginning second year – monthly payment relative to amount of loan, etc.

It will be the responsibility of the national director to make sure all deadlines are met. Unless there is good reason, any deadline missed will result in the person being removed from the program and remaining loan amount that has not been given no longer being available. The amount loaned will still be due in a timely manner.

Those who are successful in their business may have opportunities to become helpers to others as consultants of Innovative Humanitarian Solutions, Inc. This would include possible additional income.

First steps:

  1. establish a loan fund of $5,000 immediately for the first series of loans
  2. continue to increase this fund as needed
  3. identify 5 to 7 community leaders for the initial training and groups of 5 to 7 to follow this group

There are also other possible projects that are under consideration. They are:

Electrical generator: Kokosa is a small village with no electricity. The need is a medium size generator. This will provide lights for all the homes in the village. The cost of the generator is approximately $8,000.

Clean drinking water: One water-well will provide clean drinking water for everyone in the village. A study is underway to determine the cost.

Medical clinics: Many of the people in Kokosa and surrounding villages do not receive any medical care. Many die from diseases and infections that could be treated with basic medicines. Some members of the village could be trained in the application of basic across-the-counter medications.

School supplies and clothes:
Children of all ages are in needed of clothes for school. Most of what we stop wearing would be a blessing to these children. In March we will also take as many school supplies as possible.
